IIT Hyderabad Accountant Exam Syllabus 2026
Syllabus for work related topics-
The examination will assess the candidate’s knowledge of the Government of India’s accounting procedures
and the maintenance of accounts as followed in Central Government offices. The topics listed below are
provided for illustrative purposes only and do not constitute an exhaustive syllabus.
- Types of Accounts
- Ledgers
- Journal Entries
- Trial Balance
- Trading Account
- Profit and Loss Account
- Receipts and Payments Account
- Income and Expenditure Account
- Balance Sheet
- Bank Reconciliation Statement
- Rectification of Errors
- Accrual Method of Accounting, etc.
Note- Candidates are advised that answers to the questions will be evaluated based solely on the standard
content available in recognised textbooks on the subject
Stage 1- Preliminary Written Test (Screening Test)
Eligibility-All shortlisted candidates
Total Marks- 200
Format- 50 Objective Type Questions (as decided by the Selection Committee)
Negative Marking- 1 mark (i.e., ¼ mark) shall be deducted for each wrong answer.
Duration- 90 minutes/ 1.5 Hours
Based on the performance in this stage, candidates in the ratio of 1-8 will be shortlisted for the next stage,
subject to their securing the minimum qualifying marks as prescribed by the Selection Committee.
Work Realted topics – 50% weightage
General Arithmetic – 40% weightage
General English (Communication Skills) – 10% weightage
Stage 2- Skill Test (Qualifying Test)
Eligibility- Only for candidates shortlisted based on performance in Stage 1 (in the ratio of 1-8)
Total Marks- 100
Duration- 1 Hour
MS Word – 20% weightage
Knowledge of accounting software & MS Excel – 60% weightage
Writing Skills/ Official Communication – 20% weightage
Stage 3- Main Written Test
Eligibility- Candidates who qualify the Skill Test
Total Marks- 200 ( 4 Marks for each correct answer)
Format- 50 Objective Type Questions (as decided by the Selection Committee)
Negative Marking- 1 mark (i.e., ¼ mark) shall be deducted for each wrong answer.
Duration- 90 minutes/ 1.5 Hours

Note- The final selections will be based on merit in the Main Written Test.
